iOS 4.0 on iPhone 3G

Post by jc »

Hi all,

Did anybody of you upgrade an iPhone 3G to the new iOS 4.0 firmware?
What about the speed?
It is said to reduce the speed of the phone to a certain extend.

It's not really recommended. Slows down the phone quite a bit. 4.1. fixes some of these issues, but is certainly slower than the 3.X releases

Hi.

I had upgraded to 4.0 after having 3.x installed for quite some while. I didn't notice any speed change of my 3GS. Later on I upgraded to 4.0.1 (presently installed). Same. No speed change.

However I saw a 3G with 4.0 recently (B737 FO HJO). When pressing the "Settings" out of the main screen, it took #2 seconds before the settings appeared. Real slow! Besides this, the general feeling lacks speed as well. Hence ... I can confirm slowdown on 3G w/ 4.x.

Perhaps it is linked to 3G only since I didn't have this effect on my 3GS ?!

... later ...

Update: The mentioned 3G was updated from 4.0 to 4.1. No major speed changes! I also read in latest c't that 4.1 should improve the speed of 4Gs, but this was not the case on the updated 3G I tested.

Hi,

Thanks for the update.
I did the upgrade: 4.0.1 was a pain!
I got used to the 4.1 now (way better than 4.0.1 but still not at the same speed as with 3.1.2 :( )
With multitasking disabled on the 3G, 4.1 is ok.
Maybe faster with the new 4.2...hopefully.
