Flat Panel tv

Post by elzo »

Hi all,
Just saw the new HiFi Int. leaflet.
What do I need to look for if I don't want to spend the world but don't want to spend €1000 on crap either?
HDTV not needed
diameter around 80 cm should be enough
How about:

Plasma or LCD
Resolution
Contrast
Luminosity
etc.
Some of you should have experience in this field; share the knowledge!
Thx.

You won't get any Plasma panel < 80cm. Plasma is for big screens (production restriction). LCD for smaller panels.

Plasma burns in, especially the first 200 hours. The famous trap is if you look 4:3 on a 16:9 screen.

Plasma has way more contrast that LCD.

The deinterlace routines are (for a reason unkonown to me) much better with Plasma.

I saw today a Pioneer Plasma for 2995.- €. The best TV I ever saw. The source was an average quality DVD.

Whatever you buy, consider HDMI or DVI with HDCP.

For whatever you go (Plasma or LCD), compare them, next to each other (!). HiFi is a good place for this.

BTW ... a french guy (italian name) at the HiFi Hollerich is very good! His speciality are beamers, but he's generally speaking very up-to-date regarding video equipment (source and display stuff).

Though I can't tell you "Buy THAT product and you will be eternally happy.", I hope this helped a bit.

Bye,
